St. Gabriel man, family awarded $19M by jury over 2018 crash on I-10 in Baton Rouge

A St. Gabriel truck driver who suffered severe injuries in a 2018 Interstate 10 crash in LaPlace has been awarded more than $13.4 million in damages by an East Baton Rouge Parish jury. Frank Cushenberry’s wife and two children also were awarded a combined $5.5 million for loss of consortium, bringing the total jury award to more than $18.9 million, Lewis Unglesby, one of the attorneys for the Cushenberry family, said Friday.

 On September 7, 2023, Dr. Loi Le broke his silence by filing a civil lawsuit against Samrat Mukherjee, a medic impersonating a doctor, and Acadian Ambulance regarding Mukherjee pretending to be a licensed physician. The lawsuit alleges that Mukherjee used Dr. Le’s NPI number to pose as a doctor while working as a medic for Acadian Ambulance.

D.R. Horton homeowners may be able to present their cases in court despite contract clause

 Louisiana homeowners who have experienced problems with homes built by D.R. Horton may be able to present their cases in court, despite an arbitration clause that’s part of the contract for those purchasing homes from the nation’s largest builder.
Nineteenth Judicial District Judge Don Johnson recently reopened hearings on whether D.R. Horton should be allowed to deny homeowners access to court.

Parties disagree on allowing arbitration in D.R. Horton lawsuit

Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – There are thousands of D.R. Horton homes across the state including Southwest Louisiana, and many people who bought those homes have a litany of complaints dealing with moisture inside.
There’s a lawsuit filed from a number of D.R. Horton homeowners who said their homes are defective. Attorney Lance Unglesby said the homes are not designed for this climate.
“The D.R. Horton homes in South Louisiana are defective in the way they are designed to accommodate the humidity of South Louisiana,” Unglesby said.
